Music for Life - Celebrated and Remembered
First Baptist Church, Greenville
Sunday, March 30, 2008, 3:00 PM
Ticket prices: $20 Adults, $10 Students
Music speaks to every part of our life's journey - from baby's lullabies,
to love relationships, to worship, to the beauty of nature, and especially
to our life's end.
This will be a special concert of music of celebration and remembrance for
those who have touched our life and are no longer with us. The beautiful,
quiet setting of the Requiem was composed by French composer
Maurice Durufle in memory of his father who had recently died. Johannes
Brahms, in the lovely Nanie reminds us that "even the
beautiful must die." American composers Daniel Gawthrop, Rene Clausen,
Moses Hogan, and Brazeal Dennard have made meaningful music in speaking to
the joy of life and the impact of the spirit. Join us, and remember and
celebrate those who have been meaningful to you in this special musical
afternoon concert. |

Gustav Mahler - Symphony No. 2 -
Resurrection Symphony
Celebrating the 65th Anniversary Season of the Greenville Symphony
OrchestraPeace Center for the Performing Arts
Saturday, May 3, 2008 8:00 PM
Sunday, May 4, 2008, 3:00 PM
Ticket prices are based on seat selection: $30, $25, $15
Maestro Edvard Tchivshel will conduct the combined forces of the
Greenville Chorale and The Greenville Symphony Orchestra in this
monumental work by the great Gustav Mahler. Completed in 1894 when Mahler
was 34 years old, the five movements are patterned somewhat after the
Beethoven 9th Symphony, with a "choral movement" as the conclusion. Mahler
wrote a "program" for each movement, beginning with, "We are standing
beside the coffin of a man beloved...", and concluding with the chorus
singing, "Thous shalt arise, surely thou shalt arise...and overwhelming
love lightens our being. We know and we are." |
