Dr. Bingham Vick, Jr. has been artistic director and conductor of The Greenville Chorale since 1981. Coordinator of Chorale Ensembles at Furman University, Dr. Vick teaches voice and conducting. He also conducts the Furman Singers and the Chamber Singers.
In 1984, Dr. Vick received the Teacher Meritorious Teacher Award for excellence in teaching. In 2000, he received the highest civilian honor to a South Carolina citizen when he was awarded The Order of the Palmetto. In 2004, Dr. Vick was the recipient of the Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Governor's Award, the highest honor given in recognition of significant contributions to the arts in South Carolina.
Dr. Vick earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Stetson University, and the Master of Music and Ph.D degrees from Northwestern University. While at Northwestern, he was assistant conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Chorus. He joined the Furman faculty in 1970.
Highly regarded as a conductor, educator, and tenor soloist, Dr. Vick is the past president of the South Carolina chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the South Carolina Chapter of the American Chorale Directors Association, and the eleven-state Southern Division of the American Chorale Directors Association. He has also served as Music Director of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Greenville, South Carolina.
During Dr. Vick's 22 years as conductor and the primary administrator of the Chorale, The Greenville Chorale has grown from a membership of 75 to a current roster of 206 singers. The Chorale budget has significantly increased and the audience has grown steadily.
